The results of American Idol’s Top 8 came after the dreaded Judges’ Song Contest, in which judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan chose the tracks that the contestants were to perform in the competition.

Venegas was tasked by Perry to perform a rendition of Lewis Capaldi’s hit ballad “Someone You Loved.”

Among the songs the Filipino-Canadian teen performed during his “Idol” journey were Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind,” Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” original song “180,” Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in My Life.”

Venegas, who competed in “The Voice Teens” season 2 in 2020, caught the attention of “Idol” fans after receiving the first platinum ticket of the show’s 21st season. Following this milestone, he was able to advance to the second round of Hollywood Week while watching the first round from the sidelines.  /ra
