Prior to announcing the Top 12, the 17-year-old singer earned a standing ovation from judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan after his heartfelt performance of the hit Elton John song.

Venegas’ mother, Iris Samson, was also spotted watching her son in the audience with tears in her eyes.

The teen was recently announced as part of “Idol’s” Top 20 after performing an original song called “180,” which earned rave reviews from the show’s judges.

Venegas first caught the attention of fans after he earned the first platinum ticket of the show’s 21st season in February 2023. The prized ticket was introduced only last year and is said to be of higher degree than the golden ticket, as contestants can “coast through one whole week of Hollywood week.”

The singer, who previously joined “The Voice Teens” in 2020, also performed the tracks “New York State of Mind,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” “It Will Rain,” and original song “180” during the show’s run, as of this writing. EDV
