Donny Pangilinan is set to return to the big screen in an upcoming film about the esports industry, alongside his mother, seasoned actress Maricel Laxa, and Baron Geisler.

The upcoming project, going by the title “GG (GoodGame),” was confirmed by Pangilinan’s father, media practitioner and motivational speaker Anthony Pangilinan on his personal Instagram page on Tuesday, March 28, as he shared photos of the film’s contract signing event with his company MediaWorks Inc. and cable channel Cignal.

The movie, which is centered on esports, or electronic sports, will reportedly be directed by filmmaker Prime Cruz.

Esports is defined as a form of competition using video games that may be played individually or as teams.

“A new day is dawning. Official contract signing between MediaWorks and Cignal for “GG (GoodGame),” the first full length esports film in the Philippines,” he said in the caption.

While details about the film’s plot and premiere date are yet to be disclosed, Anthony hoped that the project would “add value to our country’s entertainment industry.”

“May it add value to our country’s entertainment industry, in both end and process, the final product and means taken to get it done. By God’s grace and for His Glory,” he added.

Geisler also expressed his excitement for “GG,” as seen in a series of photos on Instagram.

“#GG coming soon #esports #movie,” he captioned his post.

Pangilinan, Laxa, and Geisler will also be joined by veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez, who was also present during the contract signing. As seen in Valdez’s post, the actors were also joined by entrepreneur Manuel V. Pangilinan during the event.

“Contract signing with no less than the big boss Mr. Manny Pangilinan,” Valdez said.

Donny is also set to star in an upcoming teleserye “Can’t Buy Me Love” with his onscreen partner Belle Mariano, which will reportedly be released in 2023.

The “He’s Into Her” earlier spoke about being a leading man in a video clip of “Tatak Star Magic Celebrity Conversations” earlier this month, saying that Mariano is a “very supportive onscreen partner.” He also noted that his heart is “very happy,” and giving back to his loved ones is a way of sharing his happiness.
