Karylle, Markki Stroem join cast of ‘The Sound of Music’ for Manila staging
Karylle and Markki Stroem have been cast to play the roles of Baroness Elsa von Schraeder and Rolf respectively, in the Manila staging of the Broadway musical “The Sound of Music.”
The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, which is based on the life story of Trapp Family Singers who escaped from Nazi-occupied Austria in the 1930s, will be staged in the country in March as part of its international tour.
Karylle and Stroem’s casting was announced by GMG Productions through its Instagram page on Friday, Feb. 17.
“Joining the Manila season of the tour as Baroness Elsa von Schraeder, multi-platinum recording artist, TV, and movie actress Karylle Tatlonghari!” it said of the singer-TV host.

“Introducing theater, TV, movie actor, and radio DJ Markki Stroem as Rolf for the international production of the [‘Sound of Music’ on tour],” it added, captioning a photo of Stroem.

In preparation for the musical, Karylle filed for a leave of absence from “It’s Showtime,” as per her exclusive interview with ABS-CBN reporter MJ Felipe.
Stroem, for his part, expressed excitement over being part of the international cast via an Instagram post.
