Dennis Padilla ends ties with Barretto kids: ‘I will carry it to my funeral’

Dennis Padilla is further expressing his hurt and anger over his and his side of the family’s shabby treatment during the wedding of his daughter Claudia Barretto and Basti Lorenzo, as he declared that his alleged mistreatment is his last straw.

Shortly after the church wedding of his daughter, Padilla took to social media to accuse her and her siblings, Julia and Leon Barretto, of treating him as a “visitor,” instead of the “father of the bride.” His rants were also supported by his brother, Gene Padilla, who called out the newlywed and her siblings for utter disrespectful towards their father.

In an interview with entertainment insider Ogie Diaz on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, April 9, Dennis further made known the extent of his anger, declared that he will stop pursuing Claudia, Julia, and Leon Barretto, his children with actress-politician Marjorie Barretto, as he is tired of trying to repair their relationship.

“Ayoko na, surrender na, I’m finished. Tatay na lang nila ako pero bringing back the relationship, wala na siguro (I don’t want to do it anymore. I surrender. I’m finished. I will simply be their father, but in terms of bringing back our relationship, I can’t do it anymore). Maybe we can just [look back] at the memories, [but] that’s it. Finished,” he said.

Padilla added that he will remove his social media posts containing any mention of his children with Marjorie, while calling them out for never including him, as well as his parents, on their respective Instagram platforms.

“Tatanggalin ko na lahat [ng posts ko about them]. Mahirap lang kasi ang dami. Ngayon ko lang narealize that none of my children posted my picture on Instagram, not once,” he said. “Ni wala akong picture sa kahit saang social media nila. Ne walang mention ng pangalan ko, nanay ko, tatay ko na artista din sa kanilang social media posts. As in zero. Why?”

(I will remove all of my posts about them. It’s hard, though, because they are so many. I just realized that none of my children posted my picture on Instagram, not once. None of my photos made it to their social media platforms. Me, my mother, and my father — who is also an actor — never made it to their social media platforms. As in zero. Why?)

When asked by Diaz about the possibility of Julia, Claudia, and Leon reaching out to Padilla in the future, the actor-comedian said he won’t respond to their attempts, declaring that he will carry it “to his funeral.”

“Parang hindi na siguro, I will carry it to my funeral. Hanggang mamatay ako, hindi ko babaguhin. Ayoko na. Pagod na ako (I don’t think I can do it anymore. I will carry it to my funeral. Until I die. I will not respond to them. I don’t want to do it anymore. I’m so tired of it),” he said.

‘Claudia had cold feet’

During the interview, Padilla also claimed that Claudia reached out to him hours before her wedding, where she allegedly had been experiencing cold feet before her special day.

“Mga eight nang umaga, nag-message ako kay Claui and wala pang two minutes nag-ring ang phone… Sabi niya, ‘I need to tell you something. Parang hindi na tuloy ang kasal,’ tapos umiyak. She was trying to control it. [Sabi ko], ‘iIf you are not happy with it, don’t do it. If you are not sure of it, don’t do it,’” he said.

“Pakiramdam ko lang, sinabi niya lang ‘yun na hindi na tuloy ang kasal kasi siguro, ayaw na niya akong pumunta,” he further added.

Padilla further recalled that Claudia allegedly advised him to “look good” before the ceremony during their gathering. According to him, this remark made him believe that he was part of the wedding as an entourage.

However, as they arrived at the church ceremony, it was made known to him that he wasn’t really part of the entourage, or even of the entire program. He recalled that there was no prearranged seating arrangement for him or even for his mother, Catalina Dominguez, and that he was just asked instructed to sit with the couple’s godparents. This prompted Dennis, Gene, and Dominguez to decide to sit at the back of the church, and to no longer attend the couple’s outdoor reception in Laguna.

“Halfway through [the march], noong tumatawid si Claudia, wala na… it’s one of the most painful parts ng buhay ko,” he said. “I went to the [wedding] organizer doon sa gilid, I was talking to them while I was crying. Sabi ko lang, ‘Ma’am, ano po ang nangyari? Diba ako ang father of the bride?’”

“Tapos sabi nila, I know what you feel… ni-raise ko po ang issue na ‘yan noong our meeting. Sabi, just follow the program that we gave you… wala po akong magawa, Sir. I feel you, I’m sorry,” he continued.

We couldn’t do anything, Sir. I feel you. I’m sorry.)

Claudia nor her siblings, as well as Marjorie, have yet to publicly address Padilla’s outburst, as of this writing.

Claudia and Basti, who is the brother of Erich Gonzales’ husband Mateo Lorenzo, tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Alabang earlier this month.
