Talent trumps power in cautionary #MeToo tale
You wouldn’t notice the challenges Generous Performer (GP) had to hurdle based on how easy it is to work with her. But in between takes, it didn’t take long for GP to open up about the difficulties she had to endure against misogyny and the threat of sexual abuse after she realized that the people around her could be trusted with her story.
One such rehearsal break was as cathartic for GP as it was revelatory for her coworkers. When Clueless Costar (CC) began talking about the string of #MeToo cases in Hollywood, GP began to recall how she almost bade her successful show biz career goodbye when she was just starting out.
As it turned out, GP had to protect herself from Head Honcho’s (HH) salacious advances. After she refused to “give in,” many of GP’s projects were temporarily moved to the back burner—or canceled altogether!
But GP said she didn’t make a lot of fuss about her sorry situation, stuck to her guns and hoped her skills would eventually help see her through HH’s “machinations”—and they did! She said hers is a story about how talent could trump power. But she said she hoped HH would eventually get his much-deserved comeuppance in due time.
