MANILA, Philippines — Jenny Ramp took home the 2022 Miss Philippines Earth crown when organizer Carousel Productions resumed the pageant’s physical staging after two years of holding virtual competitions because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And now, she will represent the country in the global Miss Earth competition which will also return to doing a live contest.
“I’m so excited. I do feel that there is a pressure since it’s the first time it will go face-to-face [after two years],” she told the Inquirer at the sidelines of the opening of The Pretty You Prime in Mandaluyong City on Sept. 6.
The American-Filipino queen from Santa Ignacia, Tarlac, said she is aware of the people’s high expectations for the international pageant’s return on a live stage, but assured the public, “we’re gonna give them a good show.”
Carousel Productions said that like its recent staging of the Miss Philippines Earth pageant, this year’s Miss Earth contest will also be “hybrid,” where the delegates will first engage in virtual competitions before participating in the face-to-face phase.
However, if the national contest saw only the Top 20 candidates competing on the physical stage, the 2022 Miss Earth pageant will gather all the international delegates in the Philippines.
Online events will commence on Oct. 24, while on-site preliminary activities will start on Nov. 12 with all of the delegates. The coronation program is scheduled on Nov. 26.
“It’s such an honor to be a host candidate. That’s so exciting. I can’t wait to see all the other candidates and to learn about their culture,” Ramp said.
The Psychology student said she hopes to show only the best that the country has to offer through her, adding, “I believe that we have so much beautiful, unique traits, and I hope I can embody it to [my fellow delegates].”
“So whenever they think of the Philippines, they could think of me or this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they had to compete in the Philippines. And I hope that they see it as a memorable experience,” Ramp said.
The Philippines has been the most successful country in the Manila-based international competition with four winners, including queens who won two years in a row.
The most recent Filipino Miss Earth queen is Karen Ibasco who was crowned in Manila in 2017. JB
