WATCH: Jennylyn Mercado goes ‘classical’ in maternity shoot

Jennylyn Mercado radiated elegance in a classical painting-themed photo shoot with celebrity photographer BJ Pascual.
Mercado looked stunning in four different outfits in a floral set design, as seen in a photo shoot vlog by Pascual on his YouTube channel yesterday, April 9.
Aside from the wine-red flowy dress that she earlier teased as sneak peak, Mercado donned a long brown pleated dress paired with a huge floral headdress, and a royal blue cloth with a huge shoulder detail. The actress also went almost nude while only wearing a red wide-brimmed hat and a tulle cloth covering the front part of her body.
Pascual explained how he came up with the concept, inspired by a mix of elements from paintings by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Simon Pietersz Verelst.
“Initially I just wanted a lot of volume and romanticism,” Pascual said. “Parang gusto ko lang siyang magmukhang painting para classic lang siya, para pwede mong i-frame forever.” (I kind of wanted it to look like a painting so that it would be a classic [piece] which you can put in a frame forever.)
Mercado then admitted that she initially found the concept challenging but stressed that it eventually turned out good with the help of Pascual. She was also assisted by her husband, actor Dennis Trillo, who was with her during the photo shoot.
“‘Yung concept, sabi ko, ‘Kaya ko ba ‘to?’ Kasi di ba pag buntis ka tapos kailangan mo ng ganito, sabi ko, ‘Masyadong glam ata ‘to para sa ‘kin.’ Pero kinaya ko kasi napakabilis naman ka-trabaho ni BJ,” she said.
(About the concept, I initially thought, “Can I do this?” Because when you’re pregnant and you need to do these, I told myself, “I think this is too glam for me.” But I was able to do it because it was easy to work with BJ.)
Mercado also picked her favorite outfits out of the four, which are the wine-red flowy dress and the tulle cloth with a red wide-brimmed hat.
Mercado, who is now about 35 weeks into her pregnancy, announced in October last year that she is expecting her first baby with Trillo. The couple also tied the knot in a civil wedding in November. JB
