Barbie Imperial clarifies she did not reconcile with Diego Loyzaga

Barbie Imperial clarified she and her ex-boyfriend, actor Diego Loyzaga, are just friends amid speculations that they got back together after their recent playful exchange on social media.
The actress stressed that though she and Loyzaga are no longer a couple, they are not enemies and are still friends, as seen in her appearance on the morning talk show “Magandang Buhay,” shown on YouTube yesterday, April 1.
Fans speculated that the two had reconciled after Loyzaga called Imperial the DC Comics character Poison Ivy while showing her red hair on Instagram last month. Imperial then replied to him, “Ako nga pala ‘yung sinayang mo (I’m the one you wasted, by the way),” which prompted Loyzaga to ask her if she was “sure.”
“Hindi naman po kami magkaaway pero hindi naman po kami nagbalikan,” Imperial told hosts Regine Velasquez, Melai Cantiveros and Jolina Magdangal. “Friends lang, friends… Kulitan lang.” (We’re friends, but we did not get back together. Just friends, friends… only joking around.)
Imperial then added that she and Loyzaga had talked to each other prior to their Instagram exchange, after Loyzaga came home from a trip to the United States.
She then recalled that she waited one week before telling her mother about the split so she could cry over it on her own first, and see if she and Loyzaga would reconcile or if their breakup was actually official.
“Alam ko po talaga kapag nasasaktan ako ay mas doble ang sakit para sa nanay ko. Kinimkim ko muna mag-isa, tapos no’ng medyo kaya ko nang konti, doon ko sinabi kay mama at saka nung sigurado na na break na talaga,” she narrated.
(I know that when I’m hurt, my mom experiences double the pain I feel. I kept it to myself, then when I could already handle it and I was sure that we had really broken up, I told my mom.)
According to Imperial, her mother helped her get over the heartbreak by consoling her and keeping her company when she felt sad. She added that she is now happy, three months since the split.
“Ngayon po, siyempre sobrang happy na talaga ako. Finally, after three months ng breakup namin, I’m okay na,” she said. (Now, of course I’m really happy. Finally, three months after the breakup, I’m already okay.)
Prior to this, Loyzaga also dismissed speculations that he and Imperial had reconciled, after they were spotted in a restaurant in Pasig City. He stated that they are just “friends in talking terms.”
Imperial confirmed her breakup from Loyzaga in February. She did not disclose the cause of the split, though she noted that they ended their relationship on good terms. /ra
