Barbie Imperial has confirmed that she and fellow actor Diego Loyzaga have called it quits after being in a relationship for a year.
After weeks of speculations from fans, the actress announced her split with Loyzaga exclusively on ABS-CBN News, as seen on “TV Patrol” yesterday, Feb. 4.
Imperial did not disclose the cause of her breakup with Loyzaga, but she said they ended their relationship in good terms.
Prior to confirming the split, Imperial opened up on the most recent love lesson she has learned, via the virtual media conference for “The Goodbye Girl” last Thursday, Feb. 3.
“I’m the kind of person na kahit medyo nauubos na ako, bigay pa rin ako nang bigay ng love sa ibang tao. So finally, natutunan ko na baka kaya paulit-ulit nangyayari sa’kin ‘to kasi hindi ko talaga minamahal ang sarili ko,” she said. “It’s like all the same [story for] each boyfriend. So for me, what if ibahin ko ngayon? Sarili ko naman ang mahalin ko.”
(I’m the kind of person who still gives love to others even when I can’t anymore. I learned that maybe this is repeatedly happening to me because I am not loving myself. It’s like all the same story for each boyfriend. So for me, what if I change it now? Love myself instead.)
She also stressed the importance of self-love, knowing when to leave a relationship and being aware of one’s worth as a person.
Imperial and Loyzaga went public about their relationship on New Year’s Day in 2021 and marked their first anniversary last December.
Their relationship has been a subject of controversy in recent months after Loyzaga was speculated to be cheating on Imperial when he was said to be spotted visiting actress AJ Raval at her home in Pampanga. Imperial defended the actor, asserting that it was unlikely for Loyzaga to cheat on her.
