Rupert Grint was happy to reunite with his fellow “Harry Potter” costars during the “Return to Hogwarts” special, after they had not seen each other for a while.
The actor, who played one of Harry’s best friends Ron Weasley, noted that the reunion was meaningful to him and fellow cast leads, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, during an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly yesterday, Dec. 31.
“It’s a big moment,” he said of the reunion, which marks the twentieth anniversary of the series’ first film, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
“It was our entire childhood. We grew up on those sets, so it has incredible meaning to me and Dan and Emma and everyone else.”
According to Grint, while the “Harry Potter” cast members may not remain in constant contact with one another anymore, their bonds were “instant” by the time they reunited on set.
“It’s an instant thing. We know each other so well,” Grint added. “Even though we hadn’t really caught up much in between seeing each other, on the reunion day, it was like we didn’t need to. It’s like we’re cousins. There’s that kind of ease about it. It’s always nice.”
Grint also fell sentimental over their strange but fun childhoods, since they worked together on the fantasy movie series for a decade.
“It was really nice to reminisce because we had some great times,” he continued. “I mean, it was an immensely strange childhood, but it was one that was really fun.”
The “Harry Potter” movie series is based on a seven-part book saga by J.K. Rowling. Its first movie was released back in 2001 to critical and commercial acclaim. Seven movies about the Boy Who Lived followed, with the last book being split into two movies.
Grint, now 33 years old, welcomed his first child in 2020 with long-time girlfriend Georgia Groome. He broke an Instagram record later in the same year for the fastest time to reach a million followers on the platform. BTS member V has since also broken that record. Sam Mayoralgo/JB
