A movie about a mother and son trying to survive the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda, starring Daniel Padilla and Charo Santos, was chosen as one of the entries in this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
“We’re thrilled to announce that ‘Kun Maupay Man it Panahon’ (Whether The Weather Is Fine) is heading to Toronto International Film Festival for its North American premiere,” the film’s official Twitter page announced while showing its poster yesterday, July 28.

The movie’s inclusion in the festival apparently becomes its North American premiere as well, as per TIFF’s announcement on its Twitter page, also yesterday.
“The North American Premiere of ‘Whether the Weather is Fine’ [by] Carlo Francisco Manatad follows three characters who must decide whether to stay home or escape to Manila after a devastating typhoon,” TIFF stated, showing a still from the movie.
The film, directed by Carlo Francisco Manatad and featuring newcomer Rans Rifol, is part of the festival’s Contemporary World Cinema selections. It will be featured alongside 19 other productions from all over the world, as per a release by TIFF. The festival will run from Sept. 9 to 18.

Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan), said to be one of the deadliest in history, struck the country in 2013 and claimed thousands of lives.
Santos praised Padilla for his performance in the movie after it finished shooting in February 2020. She called the actor “one of a kind” and said he “amazed” her in every scene. JB
