Gabbi Garcia and members of her small community at BF Northwest in Parañaque City have set up a community pantry of their own, in line with community pantries being set up by volunteers all over the country amid the pandemic.
The young actress shared the news via Instagram earlier today, April 20, and noted that she is “Posting this with nothing but pure and good intentions.”
“[This] is to inspire everyone that despite of the situation, we can all help each other in our own little way,” Garcia stressed.
Garcia’s post came with a photo of the said pantry, which has several bags of vegetables and a sack of rice, among others. Like its fellow community pantries, it has a sign that reads, “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan.” (Give what you are able to, get what you need.)
“[Thank] you to our small community for making this possible! [Thank] you also to everyone who stopped by to drop their donations. May God Bless you more!” Garcia said.
She also thanked all the other people behind other community pantries that have sprouted in several parts of the country, which were inspired by Ana Patricia Non’s initiative on Maginhawa Street in Quezon City.
“[To] all the community pantries, SALAMAT SA INYO (thank you)!!! Keep going! God bless your pure hearts! [Tayo-tayo] ang magtulungan (We should help one another),” Garcia emphasized.
Through community pantries, many citizens have been donating goods and necessities to provide the less fortunate with sustenance amid the pandemic-induced lockdowns.
Non, however, disclosed that volunteers like her are being subjected to alleged police profiling and red-tagging for their charitable initiative. She initially planned to shut down the community pantry she initiated over fears from the said police response, but earlier today she noted that they will continue operations instead. JB
