While the filmmakers have yet to release specific details on the project, fans can expect to see epic gigantic battles from the director of the MonsterVerse film “Kong: Skull Island.”

“Gundam,” which launched on television back in 1979 with “Mobile Suit Gundam” by Yoshiyuki Tomino, is one of the most popular mecha anime franchises to date. It is set in the distant future known as the Universal Century, a time when human colonies fight for independence from Earth.

The franchise also gave rise to the building of Gunpla (Gundam models) kits, a craft thousands of fans are practicing until today.

The live-action adaptation of “Gundam” is set to be released on streaming platform Netflix and will only be distributed to theaters in China. Ian Biong /ra
