Marco Gumabao admits he once confessed his feelings for Julia Barretto
Marco Gumabao owned up to his past feelings for fellow actor Julia Barretto in her latest vlog.
The two, who are longtime friends, showed their more candid sides in Barretto’s series “#DrinkAndSpill.” While chatting, Gumabao, 26, applied makeup on the 23-year-old actress and both took shots of tequila.
Barretto asked Gumabao questions that made him reveal his true sentiments about her, like his first impression of her, which he said was “taray (snobbish).” She said she used to think he was “yabang (arrogant).”
Then the actress dropped the bomb: “Was there ever a time that you got attracted to me?”
“Kapal ng mukha nito (So full of herself)!” was Gumabao’s immediate reaction.
“Oo naman (Of course),” he eventually replied and said Barretto already knew that would be his answer.
Gumabao recalled that it was about four or five years ago, and that she was 18 or 19 and he was 21 back then. At the time, they had the same handler and would see each other every week.
“Heartbroken kasi siya noon (She was heartbroken then),” the “Just a Stranger” star explained why it did not work out between them.
“Yeah. I’d just gotten out of a relationship,” Barretto recalled.
“Oo, wrong timing ako (Yeah, I came at a wrong time),” said Gumabao with laughter.
The “Between Maybes” star was romantically linked to actor James Reid in 2015. They starred in the movie “Para sa Hopeless Romantic” but had different on-screen partners — Barretto with Iñigo Pascual and Reid with Nadine Lustre.
Both Reid and Barretto have not admitted to dating. Reid and Lustre became a couple in 2016.
As for her relationship with Gumabao, Barretto also said it was “never awkward” between them and that their friendship became stronger after he confessed his feelings.
When he said their whole barkada knew he had a crush on Barretto, she quipped, “You were in love with me. Tell them the truth.”
And even if he is thankful they are friends, Gumabao said in jest, “Minalas siya kasi ‘di ako sinagot.” (She got bad luck because she did not say yes to me.)
Barretto made headlines last year after she was rumored to be dating Gerald Anderson, who was known to be Bea Alonzo’s boyfriend. Controversy erupted after Alonzo hinted at being betrayed by him. Both Anderson and Barretto denied that a third party was involved in the breakup.
That said, the actress recently admitted that she is “in love” but did not reveal whom she had feelings for. JB
