“Without you, this war against [COVID-19] would have been over. We would have been defeated,” she added. “You gave us a fighting chance. You saved so many lives.”

Mercado also thanked them for continuing to work despite feeling exhausted.

“You deserve so much better than what you are given. I am so sorry for that,” she expressed.

Mercado previously expressed her dismay over the working conditions of health workers last July. The actress lamented how they still need to ask for mandatory COVID-19 testing and better work schedules as they continue to treat infected patients.

“Nakakadismaya na kailangan pa talaga nila magdemand sa mga bagay na dapat kusang ibinibigay sa kanila (It is dismaying that they still have to demand things that should have been given to them voluntarily),” the actress said at the time.

Along with Mercado and Trillo, celebrities such as Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis and Pia Wurtzbach have also donated various supplies to medical centers.

The Department of Health reported that there are over 250, 000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines as of yesterday, Sept. 11. More than 4,108 have died from the disease, while over 186,00 patients have recovered.  /ra
