Some of her fellow celebrities may not appreciate her outspokenness on social issues and how she appeals for them to speak up too, but Angel Locsin is not one to talk about the kindest gestures she does for her fellow showbiz workers. So much so that a director could not help but reveal one.
Director Lester Pimentel Ong took to Facebook last Monday, July 20, to recall the story of how Locsin, the “real-life Darna,” secretly saved the life of one stuntman.
“Gusto ko lang share ang experience ko working with this person,” the director said. “There was one time, isa sa mga stuntmen namin got heavily injured, naputol ang pinakamalaking buto nya sa hita sa isang aksidente na hindi work related.”
(I just want to share my experience working with this person. There was one time when one of our stuntmen got heavily injured; the largest bone on his leg broke in a non-work-related accident.)
The poor stuntman had to stay at the orthopedic center for over a month for treatment, sucking his savings dry. Ong also noted that there was a huge chance that the stuntman would never be able to walk again, more so get his old job back, as the needed operation was too expensive.
“One late night ng konti na lang tao sa public hospital kung saan nakaconfine si injured stuntman, dumating siya kasama lang ang driver niya,” Ong said of Locsin.
(One late night, when there were only a few people at the public hospital where the injured stuntman was confined, she arrived accompanied only by her driver.)
“Kinumusta si stuntman, consoled his wife and mom, then asked the person in charge of the hospital how much was the accumulated bill at magkano pa ang kakailanganin para makalakad pa ulit si stuntman,” he added. “Agad nyang binayaran ang bill, nagiwan ng pabaon at encouraging words sa pamilya, then she left.”
(She asked the stuntman how he was feeling, consoled his wife and mom, then asked the person in charge of the hospital how much the accumulated bill was and how much is still needed so that the stuntman would be able to walk again. She immediately paid the bill and donated some more to the family while giving encouraging words, then she left.)
“Siya si Angel Locsin, she is the real life Darna… hero sya kahit sa likod ng camera, kahit walang nakatingin at walang nakakaalam,” Ong stressed. “I just need to share my story of her.”
(She is Angel Locsin, she is the real-life Darna… a hero even behind the camera, even when no one is looking and without anyone knowing.)
While Locsin’s good deeds really are no secret, Ong’s account gives fans once more a new glimpse of the actual scope of Locsin’s generosity.
The actress late last year was recognized by Forbes Asia as one of its “Heroes of Philanthropy” for her charity work for disaster relief, education and the rights of indigenous people.
Known for having helped countless lives, Locsin is now at the forefront in the fight for the thousands of ABS-CBN workers who lost their jobs after the network’s franchise renewal bid was rejected by Congress. JB
