Pop star Taylor Swift spoke up about how racial injustice is deeply ingrained in the government, which is why people’s votes are crucial in fighting racism in the United States.

Swift expressed her support for the Black Lives Matter movement via Twitter today, June 10. The movement recently regained momentum after the death of 46-year-old African American George Floyd. He died at the hands of a Minneapolis police on May 25, which then sparked protests against racism and police violence in the country and around the globe.

“In order for policies to change, we need to elect people who will fight against police brutality and racism of any kind,” Swift said.

Swift recently took a swipe at U.S. President Donald Trump for his response to the anti-racism protests in the country, specifically those that involved looting stores. Addressing the President’s “when the looting starts the shooting starts” comment, the singer said Trump has been “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” throughout his entire term.

The pop singer had utilized her platform before to encourage the public to register to vote. Swift was credited for the spike in voter registrations in 2018 after she broke her silence about politics to endorse Democratic Party politicians. JB
