Annabelle Rama aired her frustration at the House hearing over the ABS-CBN franchise, where ABS-CBN chair Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez has been asked repeatedly about his citizenship.

Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta grilled Lopez on his allegiance to the Philippines and the United States during the House committee on legislative franchises and the committee on good government and public accountability yesterday, June 8.

Lopez, a dual citizen, has defended his citizenship in previous hearings. Last week, he insisted he was a natural-born Filipino since both his parents are Filipino even if he was born in the United States.

“Pwede ba lahat ng Congressman na walang alam sa itatanong tumahimik nalang or magtanong muna sa lawyer bago pumunta sa Congress,” Rama vented on Twitter yesterday, June 8.

(Can all the Congressmen who don’t know what they are asking stay quiet or ask their lawyer before going to Congress?)

“Nakakahiya at nakakabwisit manuod ng hearing. Dong Marcoleta delaying tactics ang ginagawa mo – lahat kayo gusto lang ma starring sa TV (It is shameful and frustrating to watch the hearing. Dong Marcoleta what you are doing is delaying tactics — you all want to star on TV)!”

Rama also hit Marcoleta for asking Lopez to prove his allegiance to the Philippines by reciting the first line of the pledge “Panatang Makabayan” (Patriotic Oath).

“Ako isang Pinoy na Bisaya. Hindi ko alam ang sinasabi ni dong Makuleta. Panatang Makabayan bakit kailangan sa hearing yan?” she said.

(I am a Filipino Visayan. I don’t know what Makuleta is saying. Panatang Makabayan why is it needed in a hearing?)

“Malapit na election alam nyo na kung sino ang iboboto nyo. Nakakatawa kayo Ha ha ha..bwesssssit!”

(Elections are near, you know who to vote for. You are so funny ha ha ha… annoying!)

Lopez said in the same hearing that he had no allegiance with the US. As the media giant seeks a 25-year franchise to operate again, lawmakers have questioned his citizenship as a possible violation of the franchise, given that owners of media entities must be fully owned by a Filipino.  /ra
