Award-winning filmmaker Peque Gallaga has been hospitalized due to complications from his past health conditions.

Gallaga’s fellow director, Lore Reyes, posted a statement from the former’s family on his Facebook page yesterday, May 5.

“The family of Peque Gallaga would like to make this statement in regard to the news and [rumors] circulating about him,” it said. “Peque Gallaga is in the hospital due to complications arising from past health conditions.”

Gallaga’s family also appealed for privacy “during this challenging time,” adding that they want to honor the filmmaker’s wishes, which are kept within their family.

“They appreciate everyone’s message of love and concern but they would be grateful if this remains a private affair,” the statement added. “Thank you.”

Gallaga is well known for his films such as the 1982 war drama “Oro, Plata, Mata,” the 1985 erotic thriller “Scorpio Nights” and the 1996 fantasy movie “Magic Temple.”  /ra
