Former beauty queen Shamcey Supsup recalled her academic journey, from being a “grade-conscious” student to a person who eventually understood that grades do not define a student’s learning.

Supsup waxed nostalgic over her academic transcript of records, as seen on her Instagram post last Thursday, April 23. The Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up graduated from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, where she finished Architecture with honors, as magna cum laude.

“I grew up to be really ‘grade conscious’ or ‘GC’ for short,” Supsup said. “It didn’t matter if I really learned anything as long as I get the grade, I was fine.”

Aside from finishing college with flying colors, Supsup was also an architecture board exam topnotcher in 2010.

“But now, I am more than certain that grades are not everything,” she added. “Grades should be a byproduct of learning.”

The beauty queen stressed that what someone does with the knowledge one has acquired is much more important than what is reflected on a report card.

Supsup also reminisced her college days by showing some of her graduation pictures yesterday, April 27.

“Exactly 12 years ago, I graduated from the U.P. College of Architecture,” she said. “I still can’t believe how long it’s been!”

She added that her days at the university as an undergraduate were “the best years of my academic life.”

Supsup showed herself wearing UP’s “sablay” as well as some creative shots, where she is made up and dressed in “Encantadia” style.

Meanwhile, 75 school heads and presidents of local colleges and universities opposed the proposal on mass promotion of students amid the ongoing health crisis. Included in the list of those who oppose is UP’s board of regents, which has decided to give its students a deferred grade and shorten the university’s second semester to April 30. JB
