Enchong Dee and Ria Atayde are raising money to buy personal protective equipment (PPE) and meals for the frontliners combating the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines.

The two actors began calling for donations yesterday, March 25, as seen on Dee’s Instagram page on the same day.

“Yesterday we woke up feeling frustrated that we can’t do anything at home, a lot of our health workers are getting sick by the day,” he explained.

However, in a span of 24 hours, the two actors were able to raise over P100,000 from their friends and fans. Dee also noted that while a lot of their fans are out of work now amid the pandemic, they still “gave as much as they can.”

The collected amount will be used to buy PPE for health workers in various hospitals that are in “dire need of supplies.”

“It will take time before it [reaches] the hospitals, so if we do it now, we will save so much lives,” he added.

Those interested in sending monetary donations may course them through  BDO peso account 005630455606 or through PayMaya using a QR code he included in his post. The actors also request donors to send a screenshot of their donation to 09081619986 on Viber or to spreadyourgratitude@gmail.com.

Atayde added that one can also opt to sponsor meals for the frontliners instead, as seen in her Twitter post yesterday. She advised those interested to contact the said mobile number to coordinate regarding their donation.

Dee and Atayde are among other celebrities such as Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis and Dr. Vicki Belo who have extended their help to those battling the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

A total of 636 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported by the Department of Health as of yesterday. Out of those patients, 26 have already recovered from the said disease, while 38 have died.  /ra
