Iza Calzado hospitalized for pneumonia, tested for COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Iza Calzado on Wednesday disclosed that she has been hospitalized due to pneumonia, and has been tested for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

She has yet to receive her results, even after days of waiting, Calzado said in an Instagram post.

“Hello, everyone. It’s been a while but I thought I’d update you all. I’m currently hospitalized for pneumonia and so, I was tested for Covid-19 and i’ve been waiting for the results for several days now,” she said.

Although saying it has been a “challenging” time for her, she added that she cannot compare to the frontliners who have cared for her.

“My heart goes out to everyone in these trying times, especially those who risk their lives every day to care for their loved ones,” she expressed.

“I am hoping you all can join me in prayer for those who are currently sick and their loved ones, for every person struggling to cope in these tough times,” the actress said. “And most especially, for the medical workers who are doing their best despite the hurdles.”

“I count this time as an opportunity to be kind,” Calzado added. “To be a source of love and light. With the grace of God, i can fight this and we all fight this together.”

As of Wednesday, the Philippines has recorded a number of 636 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which include 38 deaths and 26 recoveries.

The COVID-19 disease, which first broke out in the city of Wuhan in China, is a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses named the novel coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2.

The virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people but can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
