Aegis’ Mercy Sunot seeks prayers after critical lung operation
Mercy Sunot, vocalist of OPM rock band Aegis, made a heartfelt appeal to fans to pray for her following a critical lung surgery after she was diagnosed with breast and lung cancer.
The OPM singer turned emotional as she gave an update about her current condition and pleaded the public for prayers.
“Tapos na ‘yung surgery ko sa lungs, pero biglang nahirapan akong huminga, so dinala ako sa ICU. Tapos ngayon may tubig pala, may inflammation ‘yung lungs ko, so ginagawan na nila ng paraan,” she said in a recent TikTok video.
(My lung surgery was over, but suddenly I had trouble breathing, so I was taken to the ICU. Then there is water; my lungs have inflammation, so they are working on it now.)
Sunot said she was given steroids to reduce the inflammation.

Aegis rose to fame in the ’90s on the back of hit songs “Halik,” “Sayang na Sayang,” and “Luha.” The band’s songs were featured in the musical “Rak of Aegis.”
The band is composed of Sunot and her siblings Juliet and Ken. Also part of Aegis are Stella Pabico, Rey Abenoja, Rowena Adriano, and Vilma Goloviogo.
Last year, the band celebrated their 25th anniversary with a concert at the Theatre in Solaire, Parañaque City. It marked the first time for the OPM band to serenade their fans with Christmas-themed songs alongside their career-spanning Greatest Hits set.
