Actor James Reid and Momoland member Nancy McDonie shared their humble beginnings in the entertainment business during a workshop for their series “The Soulmate Project.”

The Australian-Filipino actor said he related to McDonie’s story about looking “different from everyone,” as seen on Dreamscape’s Instagram account yesterday, Feb. 6.

During the workshop, the American-South Korean singer expressed that she never dreamed of making a career out of her singing or dancing. But since she loved to dance, her mother enrolled her in an academy when her family moved to South Korea.

“Actually in Korea, I look so different from everyone,” she said. “Everyone stares at me because I look non-Asian to them.”

Reid shared McDonie’s sentiments. Reid mentioned instances back when, while still in public school, people would look at him and take photos with him because he looked “different.” He also recalled how a talent scout approached him numerous times to audition at his current home media network ABS-CBN.

He added, “In Australia, [I’m just a] normal dude.”

Then he talked about how his dad convinced him to audition for “Pinoy Big Brother” and his dream of becoming a chef before pursuing an acting career. He recounted how his plans changed after joining the reality TV show.

“With all these people reacting this way to me, it made me feel special,” Reid said. “Like, oh, maybe I can do something big.”

Aside from the workshop, Reid and McDonie did a look test of their characters Jayson and Binna, respectively, last week. “The Soulmate Project” series will be directed by Antoinette Jadaone.  /ra
