‘I still love her’: James Reid, Nadine Lustre reflect on breakup

James Reid and Nadine Lustre have nothing but kind words for each other after their much-talked-about breakup. The former couple would have celebrated their fourth anniversary this month.
The two made soul-baring statements about each other in magazine interviews that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, prior to official news of their split.

For both of them, the separation comes as they seek growth personally and professionally.
Reid admitted to Mega Man in a feature released on Monday, Feb. 3, that it was “scary” being in uncharted waters without his ex-girlfriend.
“I am not sure who I am without Nadine yet. We’ve been in a love team for so long. And that’s been my whole life,” he said. “I can’t even begin to think of who I am or what I’m supposed to be outside of that love team, which is scary. And that’s why I said I got a lot of figuring out to do. But as far as aspirations go, I’d like to just get to know myself better and become more independent.”
He further said: “People might say I’m a bit heartless. I don’t want it to seem like me wanting to know who I am without Nadine is the only reason. There are too many to point out, but that’s all I’m able to share without going into depth,” he said.
“I still love her. It’s just my perspective on love has broadened.”
‘Security blanket’
Lustre also referred to Reid as her comfort zone. “James is the security blanket. He’s the first person to come and rescue,” she told Mega.
“I’ve learned so much from him. I’m always going to be thankful that that guy came into my life, no matter what happens,” she said.
She opened up too on personal struggles, revealing that she did not feel like herself for some time last year.
“I let myself be like that because after a few weeks of being in that place, I will be in a better one. And this is the better place. Ito na yung space na mag-gro-grow na ako and restart (This is the space where I will grow and restart).”
The love team, known as JaDine, rose to popularity with the film “Diary ng Panget” and teleseryes “On the Wings of Love” and “Till I Met You.” Their last movie together was 2018’s “Never Not Love You.” The two will still work together on music after Lustre signed with Reid’s label Careless in December.
