Ella Cruz lamented comments on her weight after she posted a video of herself dancing to a K-pop song.

The actress shared a video of herself on Instagram today, Jan. 2, performing a dance cover of Red Velvet’s “Psycho.” While her talent in dancing shone in the video, the comments section was filled with remarks stating that she was either pregnant or she had gained weight.

Cruz took to Twitter to vent her hurt feelings arising from the comments. “Pagka-artista bawal ba tumaba? Kailangan lagi namin ginugutom sarili namin para ma-maintain yung gusto nyo? Katatapos lang ng pasko at bagong taon, hindi ba pwedeng bakasyon din ang pagdiet?”

(When you are an actress you are not allowed to gain weight? Do we need to keep starving ourselves to maintain what you want? Christmas and New Year have just ended, can’t we also take a vacation from dieting?)

She admitted feeling hurt and urged others to stop body shaming.

“I feel confident with my body that’s why I posted the video but people body shaming me saying ‘tumaba ka.’ ‘Buntis ka ba?’ (“You got fat.” “Are you pregnant?”) makes me feel bad about myself,” she explained.

“STOP BODY SHAMING! Or more like STOP SAYING NEGATIVE THINGS TO OTHERS.”

“It is depressing! Everyone’s trying their best tapos all these people do is look for the negative side! Why not help them boost their confidence? Spread positive vibes. Masarap mabuhay ng ganun (It feels good to live that way),” she advised.

On a lighter note, Cruz showed her dad flaunting his stomach as he danced to “Psycho.” “Ginalit niyo papa ko. Eto daw ang buntis (You angered my dad. This is what being pregnant looks like),” she quipped.

It seems no celebrity—especially the women—is safe from being fat-shamed, and at times even skinny-shamed. From the likes of Catriona Gray to Angel Locsin, female celebrities are judged harshly on how they look. Hopefully, commenters will realize that these personalities are people, too, and that it would not hurt to be nice.  /ra
