LOOK: Angel Locsin named anti-piracy ambassador

Philanthropic actress Angel Locsin is lending her support to a new cause: the fight against piracy.

Locsin was handpicked as anti-piracy ambassador for the Optical Media Board (OMB) and signed a contract with the agency yesterday, Dec. 20.

The OMB regulates the production, use and distribution of recording media in the country. It is pushing for amendments to the Optical Media Act of 2003 so it can have legal power over unlicensed software shared or sold online.

Consuming pirated content has an impact on the livelihoods of those in the entertainment industry. About a third (34%)  of online consumers in the Philippines use illicit streaming devices (ISDs) to access video content, as per YouGov survey results released in September. Two-thirds of online Filipino consumers have used streaming piracy websites or torrent sites.

Locsin was recently named Ambassador for Peace and Humanitarian Advocate by the Gawad Filipino Awards.  /ra
