Just how long celebrity hair and makeup artist-actor Fanny Serrano waited to break his silence remains uncertain, but the beauty guru recently took to social media to call out the series producers and directors of networks GMA-7 and ABS-CBN after having had enough.

“OK, this is it! Hindi ko na kasi matiis!” Serrano said via Facebook on May 26.

(Ok, this is it! I cannot hold it any longer! I am calling on all the series producers and directors of Channel 2 and 7 to give ample time when it comes to scrutizining the makeup, hairstyle and wardrobes of your leading stars!)

FEATURED STORIES

As per Serrano, it is the responsibility of directors and producers to know the right image of the character an actor is playing. He went on to ask if it is necessary for actors to wear full makeup when their character is just at home or if an actor playing the character of a poor person must really wear contour, blush-on lipstick and false eyelashes.

(Didn’t you do research to study the right look of the actors or did you scrimp again on the budget and just look for a cheap stylist, makeup artist and hairstylist for your series?)

He added the improper makeup and styling of the actors are an eyesore, such as when they would wear wigs that are not accurate to their real hair color.

Even the application of white hair to old characters is such an eyesore, to be honest),” he added.

Serrano also said makeup artists and hairstylists should not be blamed because it is not their fault the budget given to them is small.

(Don’t blame the makeup artists and hairstylists, they are only making do with the small budget you gave them!)

However, he clarified he is not generalizing all producers and directors of the networks, and said there are moments when they do get the styling right.

(I am not generalizing, okay. There are some who do pass muster. I am not trying to be a know it all, but I am used to this and already grew with this job. Are you not aware your viewers are smart… and then you expect to have high ratings!)

Serrano then shared pictures of foreign actors portraying different types of characters to drive his point home. In one post, he showed photos of Korean actors portraying the rich and noted how clean the blending of their makeup is.

“O, take note, Pinoy teleseryes,” Serrano said. “This is the Korean rich images sa kanila…

(Take note, Filipino teleseryes. This is how Korean actors portray the rich. The blending of their makeup is super-clean, thus it’s easy on the eyes.)

In another, Serrano shared photos of Korean actors playing tomboyish characters during dramatic moments.

“Usually ang mga tomboyish characters natin sa ating Pinoy teleserye ay mga naka-[contour] pa rin at kuntodo mascara at eyebrow at lipgloss!” he said.

(Usually tomboyish characters in Filipino teleseryes wear contour and also mascara, eyebrow and lip gloss!)

In the end, Serrano capped off his message by saying Filipino teleseryes should just keep it real: “Pinoy teleseryes… magpakatotoo naman kayo (Filipino teleseryes, please be real with yourselves)!!!”  /ra
