WATCH: ‘Judy’ trailer gives peek into Judy Garland’s whirlwind life
Renée Zellweger stars as Judy Garland in musical biopic “Judy”, due for release in September 2019.
Taking place at a point when Judy Garland was already an established star of the silver screen and concert hall alike, “The Wizard of Oz” made 30 years earlier, helped see to that; “Judy” follows the award-winning actress as she gets ready for a five-week run in a London theater, a performance that would be one of her last.
Based on the stage play “End of the Rainbow” and directed by Rupert Goold of 2015 crime drama “True Story” and BBC TV movie “King Charles III” (another stage adaptation), “Judy” also features Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones”), Rufus Sewell (“Man in the High Castle”), Jessie Buckley (“Wild Rose”), Michael Gambon (“Harry Potter”) and Finn Wittrock (“American Horror Story”) among its cast.
The film is set to debut in United States theaters from Sept. 27, with a worldwide rollout there or thereabouts and during the following months. JB
