After opening up about battling with depression and body-shaming, Jessy Mendiola revealed her inspiring fitness journey to fans, giving advice and sharing tips for those who want to change their lifestyle.

The “Maria Mercedes” actress was glowing in a YouTube video uploaded last Thursday, May 2, where she admitted her insecurities after being criticized for her weight when she was FHM’s sexiest woman in 2016.

“Sinasabi ng mga tao, ‘ba’t nanalo yan? ang laki ng mga pata niya. Ba’t nanalo yan? para siyang baboy,'” she said. “So syempre, doon nagsimula yung insecurities ko.”

(People were saying, “Why did she win? Her thighs are big. Why did she win? She is like a pig.” So, of course, that was when my insecurities started.)

Mendiola also talked about her history with “fad diets,” saying that they did not work out for her. Instead, the Kapamilya actress advised those who want to start their weight loss journey to start slow and to find a sport that they enjoy — which, for her, is Muay Thai.

Aside from her physical training, Mendiola said that mental health plays a role in fitness as well. “So mental health is such a big aspect pag dating sa health mo, sa lifestyle mo (when it comes to your health and your lifestyle),” she stated.

The 26-year-old also revealed that she had to cut off people from her circle, particularly those who have “judged” her. She said she listened instead to her family who kept her grounded; and to her boyfriend, actor-TV host Luis Manzano, who taught her not to conform.

The Kapamilya star also had a message to her body-shamers, saying, “Believe me. I know how you feel, but please don’t take it out on other people. We all have our own struggles. Try to put yourself in their shoes.”

To add to her weight loss and self-care tips, Mendiola also stressed that it is important to “find what is best for you,” “accept your flaws,” and “love yourself.” JB
