Twitter records 5.3 billion K-pop tweets in 2018

MANILA, Philippines – K-pop has surely taken over Twitter with 5.3 billion related tweets recorded in 2018.

According a Twitter data released Thursday, the Philippines is one of the top 20 countries with the most number of about K-pop –related tweets.

Other countries in the list were United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

The three-day 2018 Mnet Asia Music Awards played a big role in the overall number of tweets after drawing 56 million tweets and surpassing the 42 million award-related tweets in 2017.

Meanwhile, world-renowned BTS was named by Twitter as the most tweeted account worldwide.

The most liked tweet in 2018 came from BTS when its member J-hope participated in the #InMyFeelingsChallenge which garnered 1.8 million likes.

K-pop boy group EXO also garnered huge attention by generating more than 24 million tweets  in November alone through the hashtag #EXO_Tempo for their album “Don’t Mess Up My Tempo.”

In addition, EXO’s #TwitterBlueroom had over 1.6 million fans tuning in, making it the highest number of real-time views ever for a live K-pop question and answer session.  / gsg
