Ex-BIR chief Kim Henares on Gretchen Barretto’s allegations: ‘Straight out of a comedy script’

Former Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares addressed in an Instagram post Gretchen Barretto’s allegations that Kris Aquino helped a friend with a tax problem and that she was Aquino’s personal accountant.
Barretto’s Instagram post last Jan. 21 alleged that Aquino had meddled in the tax case of businesswoman Alice Eduardo during the presidency of brother Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Barretto also alleged that Henares is Aquino’s personal accountant.
“Obviously, the sawsaw tax case happened during Miss Henares’ stint as BIR Commissioner, who also happens to be currently the Queen of All Fixer’s personal accountant,” Barretto said then.
Henares, on her end, shot down Barretto’s allegations in a statement she released on Facebook last Jan. 25. She later confirmed the legitimacy of the statement via Philippine Entertainment Portal on the same day.
In her statement, Henares called Barretto allegations “straight out of a comedy script.”
“The allegations of Ms. [Barretto] that people can come to me and fix their tax problem without paying the right amount is straight out of a comedy script,” Henares’ statement read.

She further said that nobody, not even her family, enjoyed any special treatment from her during her time as BIR commissioner.
“It is a well-known fact that not even my own family enjoyed any preferential service or treatment, much to their disappointment,” said the former commissioner. “I strongly suggest that Ms. [Barretto] apply more restraint and thoughtfulness in her statements.” Cody Cepeda /ra
