Ely Buendia has quashed fans’ hopes of an Eraserheads reunion during tomorrow’s UAAP men’s basketball finals between University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University.

It is UP’s first finals appearance since 1986, bringing students and alumni feverish excitement after a long title drought.

For a brief moment, it seemed that even the iconic rock band would be part of the momentous occasion for the second game, in a best-of-three series.

Yesterday, Dec. 3, drummer Raymund Marasigan shared a video on Twitter of his former bandmates bassist Buddy Zabala and guitarist Marcus Adoro in a jam session.

He captioned the post with “praktis (practice) before game 2,” which presumably referred to the second finals game.

A third person in the frame is only seen from behind, with blonde hair and a part of his arm. Some speculated that it was no other than vocalist Buendia, who has been rocking bleached hair.

But Buendia responded to the speculations today in a tweet. “Whoever that blond guy in the video is, it’s not me,” he said.

He also threw some snark at the video: “The blond guy looks like Vice Ganda from the back, tbh (to be honest). Possible collab with the other three perhaps?”

“Laugh trip lang the way the guy taking the video makes pahagip-hagip the blond guy. Making paasa the fans (It’s funny how the video is suggestive of the blond guy. Making the fans hope),” he quipped.

In another tweet today, he said, “Sometimes these guys are like sembreak. No class at all.” It was not clear if this was related to his previous tweets.

The four formed Eraserheads while they studied at the University of the Philippines-Diliman in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, a Twitter netizen @nestorabrogena today uploaded a screenshot of a private Facebook post of one Paulo Agudelo. Fans presumed Agudelo to be the blonde man in Marasigan’s video. The post showed a picture of him and the three former Eraserheads members. He recalled that the had once jammed with them but forgot song lyrics because he was starstruck. He thanked them for allowing him to play with them again.

Tomorrow’s game will be held at the Araneta Coliseum. Game 1 was held last Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena, where the Blue Eagles shot down the Fighting Maroons 88-79. JB
