Animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” will return with a new season and 12 episodes to continue the cliffhanger ending of season 6.
The new season will be available through Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming service. Its announcement at the San Diego Comic-Con, which runs from July 19 to 22, also served as a celebration of the computer-animated series’ 10th anniversary, according to StarWars.com.
A George Lucas creation, the show first aired in 2008 on Cartoon Network and ran for five seasons until 2013. It was the last season to air in Cartoon Network and capped off with Anakin Skywalker’s padawan, Ahsoka Tano, being banished from the Jedi temple. A sixth season would later stream on Netflix. These additional 13 episodes will be known as “The Lost Missions.”
The announcement also came with a trailer for season 7. The short clip featured older-looking clone troopers and Jedi getting ready for a big operation. By the end, fans were treated to the revelation that a grown-up Ahsoka will have a role to play in the new “Clone Wars” episodes. Alfred Bayle /ra
