Jim Carrey may play as Dr. Robotnik in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film

Jim Carrey may end up playing as Sonic the Hedgehog’s arch-nemesis in an an upcoming film adaptation.
Carrey’s camp has entered negotiations for the villain role in Paramount’s upcoming live action/CGI adaptation of Sega’s classic video game, according to an exclusive report by Deadline.
“Westworld” star James Marsden and Tika Sumpter have also been cast for the film. Helming the project will be director Jeff Fowler, with Neal Moritz, Mie Onishi and Tim Miller as producers.
Pat Casey of “Golan the Insatiable” and Josh Miller penned the script for the movie.
Carrey last appeared on the big screen in 2016 for the movies “The Bad Batch” and “Dark Crimes.” In between movie projects, the actor spends much of his time painting. Carrey’s passion for painting became the subject of a 2017 documentary titled “I Needed Color.” The actor again got featured in another documentary in the same year titled, “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond — Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton.”
Meanwhile, “Sonic the Hedgehog” has been one of Sega’s most iconic properties since it debuted in 1991 for the Sega Genesis game console. It starred a blue hedgehog named Sonic, who could run extremely fast. Since then the game has had multiple iterations and even survived Sega’s decision to stop making game consoles. Sonic games are now available on Nintendo game consoles through a partnership between the former console rivals.
Apart from its game legacy, “Sonic the Hedgehog” also inspired six animated television shows. The latest of these came out in 2014 on Cartoon Network which was titled “Sonic Boom.” Alfred Bayle /ra
