‘Manou the Swift’ lands Kate Winslet, Willem Dafoe

Animated feature “Manou the Swift” is headed towards a late 2018 release, with Kate Winslet and Willem Dafoe starring as the parents to an adopted seagull.

It’s a feature debut for Luxx Studio, a directorial debut for the company’s co-director Andrea Block, and a feature writing debut for her and a second of three writers.

All the same, “Manou the Swift” is taking flight at the Cannes Film Festival with Oscar-winner Kate Winslet and triple-nominee Willem Dafoe voicing two of its central characters.

Lead character Manou is a young bug-eating migratory swift, taken in by a seagull couple. But life as a seagull is difficult for young Manou, who struggles to catch fish despite his best diving efforts. However, his atypical upbringing and abilities come in handy when new dangers threaten swifts and seagulls.

“Titanic” star Kate Winslet won an Oscar for her performance in “The Reader”. She narrated “The Fox & the Child” and voiced characters in “Mary and the Witch’s Flower”, “Flushed Away”, and a 2001 adaptation of “A Christmas Carol”.

Willem Dafoe, well known for his turn as the Green Goblin in “Spider-Man”, was Oscar-nominated for his roles in “Platoon”, “Shadow of the Vampire” and “The Florida Project”.

He voiced Ryuk in the Netflix adaptation of “Death Note”, Rat in “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, and Nemo’s father in Pixar movies “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory”. JB
