Dani Barretto has had enough of all the drama surrounding her body.
The lifestyle and travel blogger and eldest child of Marjorie Barretto first admitted the she had put on some weight in this Instagram photo with sister Julia. “Tumaba ako, [I] know. Wag na kayong nega. Masarap kumain eh (I gained weight, I know. Don’t be nega. It’s good to eat),” she proudly said.
To further prove her point, she lamented that body shaming still happens in 2018. “Why can’t you all just worry about your own body/weight?” Barretto tweeted on Thursday.
“Masarap kumain at hindi ako titigil dahil natatabaan kayo sakin (It’s good to eat and I will not stop just because you think I’m fat),” she said. Hitting at her bashers, she added: “Kung gusto niyo mag diet, eh di go. Bakit kailangan pati ako (If you want to go on a diet, then go. Why do I need to be included)?”
And maintaining her stance, she proclaimed with no shame, “Magda-diet ako pag gusto ko. For now, FOOD IS LIFE (I will go on a diet when I want to. For now, FOOD IS LIFE).”
Netizens lauded her for standing up to her bashers. Travel and beauty blogger Patricia Prieto said, “I don’t get how people just can’t respect that we are happy, comfortable and confident in our own skin.”
Netizen @fynrirgaijin told the blogger, “Can’t please them all, might as well please yourself!” and then included a set of food emojis in his tweet.
And another follower, @ernesto_ignacio, raised this point on why body shaming happens: “People shame others to make their selves feel better. It’s a sick cycle.”
Love yourself, Dani! /ra
