Summer Sonic Tokyo 2017 music festival was “rickrolled” when rock band Foo Fighters called out singer Rick Astley on stage to sing a special version of his hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”.
“Rickrolling” is the act of inserting a YouTube link of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” music video or meme within a text. It may also be the unexpected appearance of Rick Astley himself to sing the song, such as what occurred in the Macy’s Day Parade of 2008.
The prank is considered a classic joke on the internet, and the Foo Fighters pulled off what can be considered as the most epic rickroll in internet history.
The performance started off with Foo Fighter’s rendition of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana and quickly mixed in the melody for Astley’s song.
Astley appeared all pumped up for the performance, as he jumped around and sang on stage with the rest of the band.
