R&B singer Mica Javier portrays self in her new single ‘Renegade’

Her spunk and radical approach to music makes Mica Javier a certified R&B royalty in the making.
A niece of Apo Hiking Society member Danny Javier, 23-year old Mica landed a contract with the US music company Timbaland Productions while living in New York City. It was only until after five years that she returned to Manila in 2012 to revamp her career in the local scene.
Last May 26, the fast-rising RnB diva launched her new single “Renegade” on ABS-CBN’s noontime program “It’s Showtime.” It came after her recently released album “Dreamer.” The upbeat dance ditty speaks of women empowerment, a timely call to action with an equally inspiring message of awakening.
“I’m definitely my own renegade in a sense where I really do fight for what I want and for what is right,” Javier said in a recent interview at a gig in Makati City’s 12 Monkeys Hall and Pub.
A self-confessed social rogue, Javier intends to influence women on achieving their full potential free from the restrictions of social norms.
“‘Renegade’ empowers women by reminding them of their natural inner strength and their ability to own their womanhood, which oftentimes can be hindered by society’s standards and customs. With this song, I want women to unapologetically be who they truly are and go for whatever they want in life. There is no box for women, we can be and do anything. We hold up half of the sky,” she said.
Still reeling from her heart-stopping TV performance, Javier is humbled by the raves heaped on her by Kapamilya friends and supporters including Vice Ganda, Billy Crawford and, of course, her No. 1 fan, producer and beau, R&B King Jay-R.

Javier is set for a line-up of activities to promote her music.
“We have a ‘Homeworkz Original Music Only Bar Tour’ ongoing, where I’ll be performing it (‘Renegade’) live along with other original songs. I’m also lining up a few other mall shows, radio tours and events to promote my music off the Dreamer album. MYX just premiered the ‘Renegade’ music video recently, so there will be efforts to get that video on the charts.”
