Back in November 2016, during the 10th anniversary of the “Code Geass” franchise, it was announced that a new anime will debut to tie in with the events of the previews TV anime series.

It was also confirmed that protagonist Lelouch, once debated to have perished at the end of “Code Geass R2”, is alive and will return on “Code Geass: Fukkatsu no Lelouch” (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection).

While the trailer started off showing Zero’s helmet, it did not exactly show Leluch himself. An eye bearing the Geass symbol is shown at the end instead.

The trailer also showcased returning characters and hints that the “Zero Requiem” which Lelouch orchestrated to achieve world peace is not working out as planned.

“Code Geass” is an anime series by Sunrise, with character designs created by manga authors Clamp. The story is set in an alternative Earth where the reigning superpower is the Holy Britannian Empire. Lelouch vi Britannia is an exiled prince living in Japan. One day he gets caught up in a terrorist attack where he meets a mysterious girl called C.C. who grants him the power of Geass. It allows him to command anyone to do whatever he wants and thus stages a rebellion to overthrow the Britannian Empire.

The premiere of the new anime series has yet to be announced but a 3-part movie summarizing the events of the first two “Code Geass” TV series will released.

The big question of how Lelouch survived “Zero Requiem” will finally be answered. JB
