A sextet of well-loved movies from animation house Studio Ghibli are to be re-released in United States cinemas for one weekend per month, starting in June, and will include “My Neighbor Totoro”, “Spirited Away” and “Howl’s Moving Castle”.

Organized by Fathom Events and distributor GKids, both subtitled and dubbed versions of the modern animé classics will be featured during the series.

Fathom Events is to publish its list of participating theaters on April 28 when tickets are set to go on sale, while GKids is arranging for a selection of award-winning short animated films to become part of the Studio Ghibli Festival event experience.

“My Neighbor Totoro” commences screenings on June 25 and 26, followed by “Kiki’s Delivery Service” (July 23 and 24), “Castle in the Sky” (August 27 and 28), “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” (September 24 and 25), the Oscar-winning “Spirited Away” (October 29 and 30), and “Howl’s Moving Castle” (November 26 and 27).

Gkids is also preparing for a 2017 U.S. release of “Mune: Guardian of the Moon” which, while not a Studio Ghibli film, is an award-winning animated movie from the French studio behind “The Little Prince”.

“Mune” won awards from the Toronto International Film Festival and Tokyo Anime Awards, while “The Little Prince” won a César in France and an Annie in the U.S.

Tickets for Studio Ghibli Fest showings will be available from ghiblifest.com, from Fathom Events, as well as from participating theaters. JB
