Prior to being named the “sexiest woman in the country,” Mendiola blew up social media with multiple beach photos from her Instagram account.
Despite the prestigious title, the 23-year-old Kapamilya actress received flak from netizens for her controversial remarks in her acceptance speech during the FHM victory party last July.
“Talo ko pa si Pia Wurtzbach, ‘di ba? Nakakaloka ‘yung ganito. Sobrang overwhelming. Kung siya confidently beautiful with a heart, ako sexy. So, confidently sexy with a heart,” (I bested Pia Wurtzbach, right? It’s crazy. Very overwhelming. If she’s confidently beautiful with a heart, I am sexy.) she said.
The reigning Miss Universe, however, defended Mendiola’s claim, saying that the young actress was just happy over her accomplishment.
Mendiola has been a staple in the FHM’s annual list of the country’s 100 Sexiest Women since 2011.
From her initial rank of #85, she rose to #33 in 2012, then #13 in 2013. She dropped to #24 but again climbed a notch to #23 last year.
