CineFilipino: Two unalike souls meet in ‘A Lotto Like Love’

The essentials of luck and love are what movie buffs will see in Carla Baful’s “A Lotto Like Love” at this year’s CineFilipino Film Festival.

The film, one of the nine full-length features in the competition, marks the adorable team-up of young stars Isabelle de Leon and Martin Escudero.

It revolves around the fate of a go-getter woman Kayela (de Leon), and a hardworking cab driver Itot (Escudero), who get entangled through a single winning lotto ticket.

The encounter will put the two in a series of adventures and mishaps, ultimately leading them to discover their priceless worth to each other.

Baful said betting in the lotto has always been a part of the Filipino culture, but there is no local film yet that has used it as material.

“Just as there is no Filipino who doesn’t dream of winning the lotto, there is also no one who doesn’t want to find love,” Baful told INQUIRER.net.

She assured that viewers will get struck by the love chills, courtesy of the delightful chemistry of de Leon and Escudero.

“It’s every Filipino’s story. Sometimes, we have that big dream that we forget the more important things, like love, which we also need in life,” she said.

For its second edition this March 16-22, CineFilipino will showcase other finalists in the feature-length competition: Alvin Yapan’s “Ang Tulay ng San Sebatian”; Paolo Herras’ “Buhay Habangbuhay”; Randolph Longjas’ “Van Damme Stallone”; Frank David Fabros’ “Straight to the Heart”; Ice Idanan’s “Sakaling Hindi Makarating”; Jason Paul Laxamana’s “Ang Taba Ko Kasi”; Dexter Hemedez and Allan Ibañez’s “1st Sem”; and Lemuel Lorca’s “Ned’s Project.”
