STREISAND. Memorable viewing experience

On a recent telecast of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” host Jimmy Fallon was extremely excited as he gleefully announced that singing diva Barbra Streisand, who has avoided guesting on late-night talk shows for many decades, would finally be appearing on his program the following week. He was beyond happy as he went on and on about how he had been Barbra’s fan since childhood.

Happily, the special Barbra telecast lived up to and even exceeded our fan-atical expectations. The adored diva was in top form, not just musically but also on point of personality and energy. She was thrilled to finally appear on late-night talk TV, and the “Tonight” host paid her the signal tribute of asking her to sit behind his desk.

Thus gloriously esconced, Barbra was completely in charge of things, with Jimmy happy to just be her addled acolyte. Even better, when it was time for Barbra to sing excerpts from her new album, the show’s host musically “stood in” for three of her duet partners, whom he expertly and wittily personified to a “T.”

Highlights of the “duets” album include a vocal rendition done “posthumously” with Elvis Presley, and Barbra’s duet with her own son, Jason Gould, who turns out to be a wonderful singer in his own right! —Well, with her exceptional musical genes working for him, how could he not turn out to be great?!
