Fallout from the Aguilar family feud

Aftermy exposé about singer Maegan Aguilar’s ill feelings toward her dad, fellow musician Freddie Aguilar, came out last Monday, I got all sorts of messages from colleagues.

Friends from ABS-CBN and GMA 7 asked me how to get in touch with Maegan since they wanted to pick up my story.

I sent Freddie a text message on Sunday to get his side. But at press time, he has yet to reply. In TV reports, he said he was sad about Maegan’s tell-all, but wishes her well.

FEATURED STORIES

I wouldn’t be surprised if Freddie is in shock after his daughter’s revelations.

It’s not my intention to aggravate matters by writing about this family feud.

But Maegan sought me out for help and I felt her pain. I even asked her, if she was sure about going public about their misunderstanding.  There was no tinge of doubt in her voice.

Maegan has reached the point of no return when it comes to her dad.

Just to clarify, it was only her father who had converted to Islam and not Maegan and her siblings.

Also, Maegan pointed out that it was her mom who left their dad. Her mom got fed up already, she said.

After the storm, Maegan told me that she’s “exhausted yet relieved” now that her story is out.

“The sad part was, there was an issue about money before,” she said. “Publicly, my father said one of his kids had stolen money from him. Since I’m the one who’s in the business, some people assumed it was me.”

Maegan is hurting. “I’m always on the front line, singing with him and defending him and yet they consider me the black sheep.”

Parent-child conflicts are inevitable—especially for the Aguilars, who have been constantly in the news.

It’s not easy growing up in the shadow of a famous parent. I should know because I experienced it myself. But somewhere along the way, celebs’ kids must learn how to step out of the darkness and seek their own light.

There are days when we feel that we don’t like our parents or our children because of something they’ve done. But even in those turbulent times when they are not likable, we cannot unlove them.

Hopefully, time apart will soften Maegan’s and Freddie’s hearts. So the next time they fight, they will argue about who loves the other more.

My Guy

On the lighter side, since it’s the birth anniversary of superstar Nora Aunor today, let me share some cute anecdotes about Ate Guy (Nora’s nickname) as relayed to me by my mom, Inday Badiday.

My mom and La Aunor rose to fame at the same time.  Mommy took to the grave some of Guy’s deepest secrets.

When they shot a film in Hawaii, Guy and my mom left the set during break time to watch the filming of the TV show, “Hawaii Five-0.” Their own shooting got delayed because the staff couldn’t find them.

Guy used to get nervous whenever she was interviewed by English-speaking colegialas. One time, my mom got surprised when Guy pretended that she had no voice and asked her to answer the colegialas’ questions.

Guy once pulled a prank on my mom when we left for the United States. It’s too wacky to publicize. Suffice it to say, it remains to be my fave, top-secret Nora Aunor story to this day.
