Am I psychic or what?
When “The Glee Project” started telecasting with 12 young singers vying for a seven-episode run on the next season of “Glee,” a “crazy” thought crossed my mind: What if, at the end of the long elimination process, it would finally be announced that the 12 finalists were so good that they would all be included in “Glee’s” next season?
It was a far-out and most improbable notion, of course, but I continued to keep it in mind throughout the tilt. My “logic”: The current class on “Glee” was graduating, so the show could need a new batch of juniors for its incoming school year. – You see? There was method to our “madness.”
Fast-forward to the “final-final” telecast of the show last Monday: Four finalists remained, and they stood nervously in front of “Glee” co-creator, Ryan Murphy, waiting for his decision who among Damian, Sam, Alex and Lindsay would be the show’s newest find.
Uproar
LINDSAY AND ALEX. Different gradations of triumphs.
After a dramatic pause, he announced: “Sam!” Pandemonium broke loose. – But, he wasn’t finished: “And also Damian!” A greater uproar ensued. But, he still wasn’t through: “And Alex and Lindsay will each be given a two-episode arc for the characters they will also play on the next season of ‘Glee’!”
— There you have it: All four of the remaining finalists had won, albeit in different gradations of triumph. My “crazy” and “impossible” guess had (partly) come to pass. – So, I repeat, I hope not too smugly: Am I psychic, or what? (I should buy a lotto ticket today!)
Yes, not all of the 12 finalists had been retained, but four out of 12 is still quite a substantial percentage, you’ll agree! — And so it goes…
More details: Sam won because, as Murphy put it, he had a stellar persona that was unique and would be an excitingly fresh addition to the show – a rare combination of youthful niceness with a “dark edge” to it.
As for Damian, who’s from Ireland, he’s the ultimate boy next door who’s sure to be eaten up alive by the show’s tween demographic – not to mention all of the gay viewers who love the series for its defense of “losers” and the “different.”

Cross-dresser
Note that one of the four top finalists, Alex, isn’t just gay but also an occasional cross-dresser (and black to boot!) – so he practically covers all of the basics in the “different” department (is he left-handed, as well?).
Well, what about the lone female winner, Lindsay? If the “gay factor” holds sway, why did she survive?
Upon further reflection, her having done well on the show doesn’t refute our contention, because she comes across like a young Judy Garland, the conflicted former child star with the great pipes – and very gay following.
— What about the other finalists? Some of them could be heard from again, especially the tilt’s resident blonde beauty, who’s no slouch in the singing department, either. She may not be a representative of the show’s “loser” viewership, but hey, perfection deserves it’s time to shine, as well!
