Claudine Barretto remained firm about not wanting to work with Angelu de Leon for a project, but said that she regretted having expressed her sentiments publicly.

Barretto made headlines after she declared at Gladys Reyes and Christopher Roxas’ 20th wedding anniversary party in January 2024, that she would rather work again with Reyes and Judy Ann Santos, but not with de Leon.

De Leon, who was present at the party but left earlier, then addressed the actress’ remarks two months later, saying she hoped both of them would be on good terms.

Barretto, now speaking to entertainment insider Ogie Diaz on his Showbiz Update vlog last Tuesday, April 30, said her honesty got the better of her, and she now regrets her words.

“Alam mo, nagsisisi ako sa ginawa ko. Tinatry ko talaga [siyang] i-contact and isa sa mga [napag-usapan] namin ay i-produce ‘yun… naging honest lang ako na huwag siya kasi sinabihan ko siya na huwag na,” she said.

(Do you know that I regret what I did? I tried to contact her, and one of the things we previously discussed was to produce a project. But I was just honest in saying that I do not want to.)

Barretto then addressed Diaz’s interview with de Leon, saying that they were civil before the pandemic and even went out for dinner. However, she asked the latter to “stop talking about [her] life” especially when she’s not asked about it.

“Actually, sa interview, nagulat ako kasi may sinabi kayo na noong 1990s pa [‘yung di namin pagkakasundo]. No! I have pictures in my cellphone na bago mag-pandemic, kumain kami sa dampa. Ilang beses ko nang sinasabi sa kanya, please stop talking about my life. Especially when you’re not asked,” she said

(Actually, in the interview, I was surprised when you said it started in the 1990s. No! I have pictures on my cellphone that before the pandemic, we ate out. I told her many times to stop talking about my life. Especially when you’re not asked.)

Barretto previously explained in a January 2024 interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal that she started harboring ill feelings for de Leon when the latter shared her thoughts on the former’s feud with her sisters.

‘For etiquette pa ‘to’

The actress further claimed her outburst was done with “etiquette,” but she remained hopeful for a time when her hostility with de Leon will be put to rest.

“I mean, for etiquette pa ‘to. Sumama talaga loob ko. Alam ko in the days to come, tatawagin ko rin siya. Every time na tumatawag ako sa kanya before, hindi sila sumasagot,” she said.

(I mean, this is done with etiquette. I was really hurt. I know that in the days to come, I will be in contact with her. Every time I called her before, she didn’t respond to me.)

Barretto, however, clarified that what she feels toward de Leon is not anger, but hurt.

“But in truth, I don’t think na tama na magsama kami. ‘Yun ang feeling ko ngayon. Iba kasi kapag nakausap mo na. Na-hurt talaga ako,” she said. “Pero wala akong galit. Ayoko lang. Napaso na ako. ‘Yun lang ‘yun. Noong napanood ko ‘yung interview niyo, ang laki ng pinagbago niya.”

(But in truth, I don’t think we’ll work together. That’s what I feel now. It’s different when I get to talk to her eventually. I was really hurt, but I’m not mad at her. I just don’t want to work with her. I was hurt already. That’s it. When I watched your interview with her, she changed so much.)
