Melissa Mendez apologizes for slapping Rey Pamaran, owns up to ‘mistake’

MANILA, Philippines—The deplaning fiasco involving veteran actress Melissa Mendez, businessman Rey Pamaran and athlete-actor Andrew Wolff has finally ended.

In a post on her Instagram account on Tuesday, Mendez posted a screen grab of her apology to Pamaran, saying that she wanted to move on from the incident.

“In light of the recent incident involving me and Mr. Pamaran, I would just like to simply apologize for my untoward action and move on from this. This incident has caused a lot of pain and trouble to my family, as well as to the other party involved. I am owning up to my mistake,” Mendez said.

She said that she had no right to slap Pamaran.

“No matter what the reason might be, I had no right to physically hurt Mr. Pamaran. Again, my deepest apologies to Mr. Pamaran and to all people affected by this,” she said.

She even captioned the photo of her apology with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”

In an earlier interview, Mendez refused to give an apology to Pamaran, adding that she will seek the help of women’s group Gabriela for her case.

The actress has already apologized to her family and to all passengers inconvenienced stemming from her altercation with the businessman.

She said that she has already forgiven Wolff for posting on his Instagram account the video of Mendez being asked by the airplane crew to leave the plane.

Cebu Pacific flight 5J 711 en route to Pagadian City was forced to return to Manila on March 20 to unload Mendez for her “unruly” behavior.

She admitted that she slapped Pamaran for allegedly disrespecting her.
