Now getting the breaks
Actress Andrea Torres, who inked a talent management deal with GMA Artist Center recently, said she chose to work with a company that had a “genuine concern for my career.”
Torres is now comanaged by GMA 7 and AAA Talent Agency, owned by Antonio
Tuviera (producer of “Eat Bulaga”).
“I’ve been in this business for seven years, so I’m excited with the changes that’s been happening since 2012,” said Torres, whose big break was to play the lead role in “Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga” opposite Mikael Daez. The teleserye ended its run February this year.
“Now I feel I’m onto something. With two companies backing me up, I know I’ll be well taken care of,” Torres said.

I want to be given my own title, like Maricel (Soriano), Vilma (Santos) and Sharon (Cuneta),” she told the Inquirer. “I want to be a part of show business for the rest of my life. I want to be able to contribute something to it, to be able to leave a legacy.”
Torres said she had learned a lot in the six months that she worked on “Sana.” “I was taught discipline while playing two characters (as the naive Cecilia and the scheming Margarita). It was good that our director (Dick Lindayag) had been generous and patient. I had to mature fast as an actor because of the characters I played. I attended acting workshops before working on the series. My eyes were opened to a lot of things, especially to the technical aspect of TV acting.”
Torres said she gladly welcomed the news of Kapuso top actress Marian Rivera’s transfer to AAA. “I was able to watch Marian’s interview (on April 27). She was right when she said that in AAA, you feel like you are your own boss. I’ve always had the freedom to turn down projects that I thought were not suited for me. My handlers never took that against me,” Torres said.
Like family
She added: “I always consult them, especially Rams (David, AAA president), about the direction I want my career to take. He treats me as a family member. There’s always teamwork between the talent and her manager. ”
Torres recently appeared on the GMA News TV drama series “Wagas” with Alden Richards. Only last week, she was seen on “Magpakailanman” where she played a transgender along with Ryza Cenon.
“I will continue accepting unique and challenging roles,” she pointed out. “That way I’ll be able to gain the viewer’s respect.”
